CARACAS, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Hugo Chavez, who took the oath to serve as the
Venezuelan president for 2007-2013, vowed to create anew political and economic
model in Venezuela on Wednesday.
During his swearing-in ceremony at the nation's legislature, the National
Assembly, he promised to devote his life to the construction of socialism as
well as new political, economic and social systems in Venezuela.
"I swear by Christ, the greatest socialist in history, that I will make
sure the wonderful orders of this constitution are followed, even if it costs my
life," he said.
Chavez won his re-election campaign on Dec. 3 last year, netting some 62.87
percent of the total votes.
Ahead of the ceremony, Chavez visited the tomb of Simon Bolivar,a
South American independence hero, and laid a wreath on his grave.
