MADRID, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- Spanish police have arrested five people suspected of links to international terrorism, including the 2004 train bombings in Madrid, the Interior Ministry said on Wednesday.

The five, identified as Zohaib Khadiri, Djilali Boussiri, Nasreddine Ben Laid Amri, Samir Tahtah and Kamal Ahbar, were arrested in cities around Spain, the ministry said in a statement. It did not give their nationalities.

The detainees could have helped two suspects flee after the Madrid train bombings, which killed 191 people and injured more than 1,500 others, said the statement.

They were also thought to have been in contact with a third suspect linked to the deadly bomb attacks on four Madrid commuter trains.

Police also seized false documents, receipts for telephone calls to Afghanistan, cash and three computers in the raids.
