130 survivors of Indonesian ill-fated ship rescued

     JAKARTA, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- A total of 132 survivors of the ill-fated ship, which sank in the vicinity of Mandalika island in the Java Sea Saturday, were rescued up to Sunday afternoon, a local leading website "Detik.com" reported.

    Eight survivors and a body was transporting by a ship to Surabaya, capital of East Java province, said the report.

    Meanwhile 15 survivors was transporting by a ship with Vietnam flag to Surabaya.

    Earlier on Sunday, a total of 122 survivors were found, but hundreds of others were still missing, El-Shinta radio station reported.

    However, according to Indonesian Transportation Ministry, a total of 176 survivors of the ship have been rescued till Sunday noon.

    The ill-fated ship under the command of captain Wiratno, carried 542 passengers, 57 crew members, and 29 drivers of trucks/buses, on board when the accident occurred early on Saturday.

    The Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) was reported to have deployed six warships, seven aircraft to help evacuate victims of the shipwreck.
