World leaders respond to Saddam's death

BAGHDAD, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- Former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein was buried early Sunday in his native village of Uwja in northern Iraq after he was executed Saturday, CNN reported.

The burial took place in his family plot near Tikrit, where provincial governor and tribal elders received his body from Baghdad.

Saddam, born on April 28, 1937 and deposed in the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003, was hanged at dawn on Saturday for crimes against humanity.

His sons Uday and Qusay, killed by U.S. troops in 2003, are also buried in the village.

Earlier, Sky News English TV channel reported Saddam will be buried in Ramadi, a Sunni insurgent stronghold, instead of his native village.
