BEIJING, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- China's top
legislature has made breakthroughs in fulfilling its responsibilities this year,
top lawmaker Wu Bangguo said in Beijing Friday.
This year, the Standing Committee of the 10th
National People's Congress (NPC) deliberated 24 draft laws and law-related
issues and passed 15. Five draft laws were submitted to next year's NPC for
deliberation.
The standing committee also inspected the enforcement
of 12 laws regarding issues like the building of new socialist countryside and
the building of an innovative country, and heard and deliberated 11 work reports
by the government, the Supreme People's Court and the Supreme People's
Procuratorate.
NPC deputies were playing a bigger role in raising
legislative suggestions. The standing committee had dealt with all 1,006 motions
and 6,567 proposals put forward by deputies, said Wu at the 25th session of the
NPC Standing Committee, which concluded on Friday.
In addition, Wu said more exchanges took place
between the NPC and foreign parliaments this year, including parliaments of
Russia, the United States, Japan, India, Australia, Brazil, Chile, South Africa
and Egypt.
Wu also presided over a lecture on the legal system
of international treaties held by the standing committee Friday
afternoon.
