HONG KONG, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- Investors and anxious Internet users in Hong Kong may have to wait for as long as one month for normal Internet access as authority said Saturday the repair of the earthquake-damaged submarine cables may last till the end of January.
According to the latest update by the Office of the Telecommunications Authority (OFTA) of Hong Kong, two repair ships had already arrived at the scene to repair the submarine cables damaged by Tuesday's powerful earthquakes in seas south of Taiwan and three more maintenance vessels are on the way.
After preliminary survey and assessment, the first part of repairing work of one submarine cable system is expected to be completed by Jan. 9, 2007 if the environment and the weather permit, the OFTA said.
For the other damaged cables, survey and assessment is being arranged and repair will be completed progressively by the end of January 2007, according to OFTA.
