MANILA, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- The continuous rains that hit Northern Samar this
week resulted in floods in various areas of the central Philippine province and
displaced about 5,000 families in three towns, local media reported on
Friday.
"The displaced families reside along the river banks, where these (rivers)
overflowed due to the continuous heavy rains," Northern Samar Governor Raul Daza
was quoted by Inquirer news network as saying.
The evacuation of the affected families began Friday morning, Daza said.
All the affected families sought refuge in public schools, churches and the
Provincial Capitol building, according to Daza.
Daza said that he has yet to receive information on anyone missing, injured or
killed due to the flooding that rose to one to two meters.
He said the government had not declared a state of calamity as it was still assessing the damage caused by the floods.
