Report: Bush's old Iraq
strategy versus new one
WASHINGTON, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President George
W. Bush's old strategy for Iraq, which he announced a year ago was framed around
"eight pillars," and still lives on in a weekly progress report while the
administration has been working on a new plan for the Middle East country, The
Washington Post reported on Tuesday.
The State Department continues to issue a 30-page
public report every Wednesday that details exactly how the U.S. government is
meeting the goals set forth in the now-abandoned plan, which has been declared
by the president and his national security team as a failure, the newspaper

BAGHDAD, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- British
and Iraqi forces stormed one of main police stations in the southern Iraqi city
of Basra on Monday and transferred dozens of detainees, a local police source

BAGHDAD, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- The death toll in a car
bombing attack in a mainly Shi'ite district of Baghdad on Monday rose to at
least 10 people with some 15 wounded, police said.
Military:
Three more U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq
BAGHDAD, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- Three more U.S. soldiers were
killed in Iraq in the past two days, the U.S. military said on Monday.
One U.S. soldier was killed in a bombing attack in
Baghdad on Monday, while the other two died from wounds sustained during
fighting on Sunday, the military said in a statement.
According to the military, a roadside bomb exploded
near amounted patrol in a southern neighborhood of Baghdad on Monday, killing
one soldier and wounding two others.
3 Iraqi policemen killed in suicide attack in Iraq
BAGHDAD, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- A suicide bomber struck
a police checkpoint at the entrance to the University of Anbar in Ramadi City,
some 110 km west of Baghdad, on Monday, killing three policemen and wounding
three others, a local police source said.
