Car bombs kill at least 10 in Baghdad

    BAGHDAD, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- The death toll in a car bombing attack in a mainly Shi'ite district of Baghdad on Monday rose to at least 10 people with some 15 wounded, police said.

Military: Three more U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq

   BAGHDAD, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- Three more U.S. soldiers were killed in Iraq in the past two days, the U.S. military said on Monday.

    One U.S. soldier was killed in a bombing attack in Baghdad on Monday, while the other two died from wounds sustained during fighting on Sunday, the military said in a statement.

    According to the military, a roadside bomb exploded near amounted patrol in a southern neighborhood of Baghdad on Monday, killing one soldier and wounding two others.

3 Iraqi policemen killed in suicide attack in Iraq

   BAGHDAD, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- A suicide bomber struck a police checkpoint at the entrance to the University of Anbar in Ramadi City, some 110 km west of Baghdad, on Monday, killing three policemen and wounding three others, a local police source said.

Seven policemen killed in explosion in NE of Baghdad

    BAGHDAD, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- Seven policemen were killed and at least 20 others wounded when an explosion occurred at a police station in Maqdadiyah town in Diyala province, local police told Xinhua.

U.S. House document calls for bigger military

    INGTON, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- The United States needs a larger military force and improved capabilities to meet global threats, the House Armed Services Committee (HASC) said in a document released here Thursday.

U.S. foot soldiers tell Gates more troops needed

    BEIJING, Dec. 21 (Dec. 21) -- America's top generals at Camp Victory in Iraq on Wednesday told Secretary of Defense Robert Gates they were wary of bringing in more troops. So, Thursday the secretary asked the grunts that do the fighting -- the enlisted men -- their opinion and received the same answer over and over: put more boots on the ground.

    "Sir, I think we need to just keep doing what we're doing," Spc. Jason Glenn of Mount Grove, Missouri, told Gates over breakfast. Full Story

         BAGHDAD, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Robert Gates paid a surprising visit to Iraq on Wednesday morning, just two days after being sworn in as the new U.S. Defense Secretary.

    Gates arrived in Baghdad with a mandate from U.S. President George W. Bush to help forge a new Iraq war strategy, AP reported. Full Story

Bush says bigger military size is necessary

        WASHINGTON, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President George W. Bush said Wednesday that a permanent increase of the size of the U.S. military is necessary, but stopped short of saying if he will send more troops to Iraq.

    Speaking at a year-end press conference to sum up his government's job in 2006, Bush said he has asked Defense Secretary Robert Gates to report to him as quickly as possible on plans to enlarge the size of the military. Full Story
