JAKARTA, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- The observers from the European Union (EU) said on Thursday that the first-direct gubernatorial election in Indonesia's Aceh was successful, but some problems still exist.

Observer chief of the EU Glyn Ford said that both Acehneses and Jakarta must be able to find a solution to solve the problems otherwise they will suffer from the disadvantages.

"From my point of view it (the election) has been success, but there are still some problems in the reintegration of the combatants.., the speed of reconstruction post the tsunami particularly that (is) creating tension," he told a press conference after meeting with Vice President Jusuf Kalla at the vice presidential office here.

He said the newly-elected governor will have difficult tasks, the leader must cooperate with the government of Aceh and the government of Indonesia.

He said that EU would commit to assist Indonesia to maintain peace and prosperity in the northern tip of Sumatra's island.

"We expect to work with the government of Indonesia and with the new governor in Aceh to continue our assistance in term of rehabilitation, reconciliation and the improvement of the economy," he said.

Although the Indonesian government has provided 25 million rupiah (some 2.5 thousands U.S. dollars) cash for each of the over 3,000 ex-rebel combatants and 10 million rupiah (some one thous and U.S. dollar) for each of over 6,200 non-rebel combatants, their interaction with the civilians are still not run smoothly, cording to the head of the Aceh culture center Hasballah M.
