Hu: strategic economic dialogue new opportunity for cooperation

    BEIJING, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- The strategic economic dialogue between China and the United States would offer a new opportunity for further cooperation, said Chinese President Hu Jintao on Friday. "The dialogue not only helps improve Sino-U.S. economic and trade cooperation, but also has the positive impact on development of the regional and world economy," he said.

China-U.S. first strategic economic dialogue ends

    BEIJING, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- China and the United States concluded their first strategic economic dialogue here at noon Friday, with "a number of consensus" being reached. The second dialogue will be held in Washington in May next year.

     BEIJING, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- China and the United States on Thursday morning kicked off their first strategic economic dialogue, the latest sign of bilateral efforts to boost their long-term relationship. Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi and the U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson co-chaired the dialogue as special representatives of President Hu Jintao
and President George W. Bush.

    BEIJING, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi reiterated here Thursday China will adhere to the path of peaceful development. "The choice by the Chinese people to follow a peaceful path to development is a wise decision based on China's traditional culture, painful history and her tremendous achievements at the current stage," said Wu in a keynote speech at the first China-U.S. Strategic Economic Dialogue that opened earlier Thursday.

Wu Yi: China sticks to reform, opening up

    BEIJING, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi on Thursday underscored that China will adhere to the policy of reform and opening up. "Reform and opening up are the most distinct characteristics of contemporary China, and an important experience for the success of China's economic and social development," Wu told the first China-U.S. Strategic Economic Dialogue that opened earlier Thursday.

Major deals signed on eve of key talks

     BEIJING, Dec. 14 -- U.S. companies yesterday signed major deals with Chinese firms ahead of a high-level Sino-US strategic economic dialogue that starts today in Beijing. The agreements, ranging from high-tech products to retail, are expected to boost U.S. exports to China, which grew 23 percent year-on-year in the first 11 months. The deals were signed at a ceremony attended by U.S. Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez.
