BEIJING, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- China-U.S. Collaboration Program Office for Emerging and Reemerging Infectious Diseases was officially inaugurated in Beijing on Wednesday.
Inauguration of the office "will undoubtedly promote China-U.S. health cooperation to a new level," said Chinese Vice Minister of Health Huang Jiefu at the inauguration ceremony.
Huang and U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Michael Leavitt jointly unveiled the office, located in the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
With initial talks, the two sides agreed that the program would cover research on preventing and controlling avian influenza, monitoring and ensuring safety of infectious disease laboratories, training, investigating and treating infectious diseases, monitoring diseases from food.
