UN commends Chinese peacekeepers as embassy guards on abroad

    BEIJING, Dec. 13 -- A team of Chinese peacekeepers in Haiti has received a special commendation from the UN for their outstanding performance.

    Their major missions were protecting Haiti's voting center and assisting local police. Another 6 Chinese peacekeepers have been sent to protect the embassy in Afghanistan. They're the second team to be sent abroad as embassy guards. Since 1990, 16 Chinese teams have taken part in UN peacekeeping missions, with a total number of 6 thousand personnel.
