BEIJING, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese capital Beijing will start stationing policemen into more than 100 venues for 2008 Olympics next August, police sources said Wednesday.
"The police will carry out mock exercises as Beijing hosts more than 20 matches in the second half of 2007 to test the readiness of its facilities," said a spokesman with Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau.
A general security work plan for 2008 Olympics is also being drawn up, according to the spokesman.
About 90,000 policemen are expected to be called up to protect the 2008 Olympics.
The Beijing police has adopted a security mode similar to that of the2008 Olympics in a number of sports events held in Beijing this year, such as China Open World Tennis Association tournament and China Super League, one of the most important football events in China, the spokesman said.
Beijing established a security work leading team for 2008 Olympics in December 2004, marking the beginning of its security work preparations.
In June last year, the city set up a security intelligence center and a security headquarters for 2008 Olympics.
The security budget for 2008 Olympics is expected to reach 300 million U.S. dollars, accounting for one fifth of the total costs, according to the organizing committee of the 2008 Olympic Games.
