DOHA, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese boxer Zou Shiming won the 48 category boxing gold medal at the 15th Asian Games here on Wednesday.

Zou beat his opponent Pannon Suban of Thailand with a stoppage victory in the second round with an overwhelming 21-1 lead. It is the first ever boxing gold medal for China in 16 years since Beijing Asian Games.

Zou, a gold medalist of 2005 world championship, said he was too nervous to sleep last night, but he had managed to adjust himself when he was on the way to the stadium.

The Thai, a bronze medalist of Busan Asiad, admitted that his Chinese opponent was very strong, but he could have survived to the last bout if the referee were fair.
