DOHA, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- China took the women's team
sabre gold by beating South Korea 45-38 at the 15th Asian Games here on Tuesday.
The Chinese squad dominated the match with the
outstanding performance of Tan Xue and Zhao Yuanyuan, the winners of the
individual sabre gold and silver at the Doha Asian Games.
Kim Keun Hwa of South Korea sabred to a 5-4 lead
against Zhao after the first session. But Tan outclassed her South Korean
opponent and ended the second session with a 10-8 lead.
South Korea launched a strong fight back in the third
session and came from behind to lead 15-12.
But the superior skills of Tan and Zhao enabled the
Chinese team to expand their team's lead in the following sessions, and the
Chinese team enjoyed a comfortable 40-34 by the eighth break.
In the last session, though Kim Keun Hwa scored
consecutive hits with intensified attacks, Tan sealed the game 45-38.
"We are very excited. I think we used the right
tactics," said Zhao Yuanyuan. "It's a tough match."
