Iraqi bodybuilder kicked out of Asiad for importing banned drugs

DOHA, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi bodybuilder Saad Faeaz has been kicked out of the Asian Games after banned drugs were found in his luggage at the Doha International Airport, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) announced here on Tuesday.

OCA general director Husain Al Musallam said customs officials found Saad Faeaz, who placed seventh in pre-judging for the 75kg class last Friday, carrying 134 doses of nandrolone in his luggage on Dec. 4.

Faeaz was allowed to compete pending an investigation.

Nandrolone is not prohibited in Qatar but is on the International Olympic Committee list of banned drugs.

"His personal belongings were searched, and the nandrolone was found in his possession," said Musallam.

Faeaz did not test positive in competition.

"It was not in his body. It was not tested in competition," said Musallam.

It is the fifth doping offence during the Doha Games after four weightlifters tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs.

The OCA on Monday announced that a second Myanmar lifter had tested positive, for a metabolite of an anabolic agent that helps athletes bulk up muscle.

Oo Mya Sanda was stripped of her silver medal in the 75kg class and was booted out of the Games.

Unlike many other dopers who denied using drugs with lame excuses, all the four caught in Doha waived their right to a "B" sample test.

Oo's teammate Kyi Kyi Than, who failed to win a medal in the women's 48kg category, was thrown out last Saturday for using a banned diuretic.

Uzbekistan's Elmira Ramieva, who finished fifth in the women's 69kg class, was found using an anabolic steroid, while her compatriot Alexander Urinov, seventh-place finisher in the men's 105kg division, was caught for taking a cannabis-related substance.
