DOHA, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- Josiah Ng Onn Lam of Malaysia broke the Asian Games record of the men's sprint in the qualifying stageat the 15th Asiad cycling tournament here on Monday.

    Josiah dashed out the starting line with his superior skills ofkeeping next to the sprinter's line, the shortest distance on the track.

    "I felt really good today, and tried to stay relaxed. I was really focused on the sprinter line, and kept the speed well," said Josiah.

    The 2002 Busan Games silver medallist clocked 10.537 seconds tobreak the Games' record of 10.585, set by Kaneko Takashi of Japan in Busan, South Korea in 2002.

    "Josiah is incredibly calm. He has been training for 12 months.He knows he can control the race, and he is a master of the event," added John Beasley, coach of Malaysia.

    South Korea's Choi Lae Seon was second fastest in 10.555 seconds, followed by Chinese Tang Qi in 10.571.

    In sprint racing, the fastest riders do not always win as tactical skill can overcome straight line speed.
