BEIJING,
Dec. 11 -- Dozens of troops from China's People's Liberation Army have arrived
in Pakistan. They are there for joint anti-terror exercises with the Pakistani
army.
The first contingent of Chinese troops arrived on Sunday at a military air
base at Rawalpindi near the capital Islamabad. China's Ministry of Defense says
the military exercise is code-named "Friendship-2006".
It is aimed at fighting terrorism and strengthening cooperation between the
both countries in non-traditional security. And also safeguarding peace and
stability in the region.
The joint exercise is carried out under an agreement between the defense
ministries of China and Pakistan. The exercises do not target any third party
and do not impair the interests of any other countries. (Source:
