JERUSALEM, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said on Sunday that he believed U.S. President George W. Bush would not change his stance regarding Syria and Iran, Israel's local daily Yedioth Ahronoth reported on its website.

    Addressing the weekly cabinet meeting, Olmert was quoted assaying that he is content with Bush's position on the Iraq Study Group (ISG) report after the latter made clear that he will not change his standing regarding unconditioned direct talks with Syria and Iran.

    The ISG report, which was presented to Bush on Wednesday, called for direct talks with Iran and Syria to stabilize Iraq, saying they need a renewed and sustained commitment by the United States to a comprehensive Arab-Israeli peace on all fronts --Lebanon, Syria and a two-state solution for Israel and the Palestinians.

    In response to the report, Olmert said Thursday that the conditions were not ripe for Israel to reopen talks with Syria. The prime minister also denied there was linkage between the Iraqi issue and the Mideast issue.
