DOHA, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- A sports jury for the sailing competition of the 15th Asian Games at Doha, capital of Qatar, received more protests on Wednesday after the sailing races entered the second day, a sports official told Xinhua.
"We have received nine protests form the athletes up to now, while it's four on Tuesday," Rut Subniran, vice chairman of the jury for the sailing competition at the Asiad, told Xinhua Wednesday afternoon at the Doha Sailing Club, which is the venue for the sailing races.
According to the rules for the sailing competition, after each day's racing there is a protest period, in which the sailors or officials may lodge protests against rival athletes who may break the rules during the races on the open sea.
Protests will be adjudicated in a series of hearings conducted by the international jury. Protests may result in scores adjusted by disqualification or redress.
The international jury, consisting of 12 members, would be divided into two groups to hold hearings this evening.
"We have to make decisions tonight (about these protests)," said Subniran, who was busy putting in order the written protests for the following hearings in the evening.
The vice chairman said that most of the protests were focused on the Laser class, which is one of the 11 classes competed at the Doha Asiad and one of the hottest sailing races.
All the four protests on Tuesday were adjudicated last night with some of the initial results of the sailing races being changed.
