DOHA, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- Gymnast NG Shu Wai won Malaysia's first ever gymnastics medal at the Asian Games history on Wednesday. But the medal, as he said jokingly afterwards, was "produced" in China.

NG completed two successful high-difficulty vault with 16.325 and 16.650 points respectively on Wednesday. His average score of 16.487 won him a silver for trailing 0.138 points behind gold medallist Ri Se Gwang of DPR Korea.

"I am very, very happy today. I represented the quality of my training and won the first ever medal for my country," said NG in Chinese with high emotion.

GN is a Malay with Chinese origin, so he can speak Chinese fluently.

GN ranked first after qualification, but he withdrew from the Dec. 4 all-around final with blistered palms.

He wanted to ensure he would be in the best possible condition for this final, where he will try to win Malaysia the first Asian Games medal in gymnastics. NG was the only qualifier with two vault scores above 16.000 and finally he managed to bring home the medal.

"Now my hope is to compete in the Beijing Olympic Games, so I need to perform well in next year's Stuttgart world championships," NG said of his prospect. "The Stuttgart worlds is a qualifying event for the Olympics."

"At first, my elder brother practised gymnastics. My parents wanted me to practise too for the sake of health when I was 12 years old,"

"But I really had not expected to be selected into the national team at that time," he said.

"Beijing is the place where I have been training for the latest three years with my Chinese coach Zhang Jun. He arranged me to train in the Beijing training base of gymnastics first and then we recently moved to Nanjing, east China's Jiangsu province," said NG." We established very close relations and we cooperated very well.

"I improved very fast when I was training together with the top-level gymnasts from the provincial team of Jiangsu."

"I would like to thank the Chinese gymnastics team doctor Liu Shu, who helped me a lot when I was injured at the Aarhus gymnasitcs worlds last October," NG added.
