Special report: Tension escalates in Iraq
WASHINGTON, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. bipartisan
Iraq Study Group presented its report to President George W. Bush on Wednesday.
Bush said the report provides a tough assessment of
the situation in Iraq, and he would act in "a timely fashion."
The commission, which was set up in
March this year to review the administration's Iraq policy, warned that the
situation in Iraq was grave and dangerous, and there was "no magic formula."
The group was expected to recommend a shift of the
U.S. military mission in Iraq to a secondary role, and regional talks involving
Syria and Iran.
The group would release its full report later
Wednesday.
