MEXICO CITY, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- Protestors from Mexico's Francisco Villa
Popular Front (FPFV) clashed here with Mexico City's riot police on Tuesday, as
the city's new mayor was taking oath of office in the nearby legislature, local
media said.
The clashes began when around 50 FPFV protestors threw stones and bottles
at the police. The police had formed a barrier around the Federal District
Legislative Assembly where the new mayor Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon was being sworn
in.
The FPFV are demanding the return of land in the eastern part of Mexico
City, and restitution of their property.
Tuesday's skirmish follows an eviction of residents from around 200 homes
illegally built on squatted land by the city's riot police.
Riot police officials told the local media that no one was hurtor
arrested on Tuesday and demonstrators are continuing their protest on one of the
city's main roads.
