DOHA, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- Thai boxer Suriya Prasathinphimai, the sliver medalist at the Athens Olympic Games, was stopped on the ring for a cut over his left eye and then was announced loss at the Doha Asiad here on Tuesday.
However, the Thai was 12-4 ahead on point at the moment when the second round had 23 seconds to finish. Before that, the boxer had been pouring punches on his Turkmenistan opponent Shukuralla Atajanov.
"I did not like the decision and it made me feel like stopping boxing," the boxer said, referring to the stoppage decision made by the referee.
He complained that his injury was not that bad and he could win easily if the competition continued.
Earlier in the 64 kg category, Thailand's gold medalist in Athens Olympics Boonjumnong Manus taught a lesson to his younger Chinese rival Xia Wenjie by a stylish overtaking victory.
The match was tight, Xia got an amazing 4-0 run at the beginning but the Thai veteran recovered in the second bout with more efficient attacking tactics.
"My coach said that I was behind him by four points, I felt pressure," said the Thai, who claimed a revival from extravagant way of life since his success in Athens after two wins.
Following Manus, Heavy Weight boxer Naser al Shami, a Syrian bronze medalist in Athens Olympics, also pulled down a win against Hua Duc Trong of Vietnam.
He said that he was satisfied with his first match in one and a half years, adding, "I promise all Arabs that I will perform well in these games."
Artayev Bakhtiyar, Kazakhstan's most eminent boxer and the flag-bearer of the squad, beat his Japanese opponent Murata Ryota with an overwhelming 24-5 on point.
Chinese boxer Zhang Jianting on Tuesday grabbed a referee stoppage win over his opponent Khojimuradov Sarvar of Tajikistan at the third bout.
"I controlled him by a lot of fakes," he told Xinhua.
Zhang will accompany his teammate Hu Qing, Yang Bo as well as world champion Zou Shiming to compete in the quarterfinal at the Doha Asiad.
