Badminton competition schedule changed amid rainfall worries
  12-05 16:56

DOHA, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- Due to expected heavy rainfall on Dec. 7, and the possibility of another leakage in the roof of Aspire Dome, the competition schedule for badminton has been re-arranged for Dec. 6 and 7, the Doha Asiad organizers said here on Tuesday.

The second round matches of the mixed doubles were brought a day forward from Dec. 7, and as a consequence, the number of matches on Dec. 7 has been reduced so that they can be played on two courts (Court 2 and 3) only, the Doha Asian Games Organizing Committee (DAGOC) said in a press release.

"The re-arrangement measures have been taken because the roof of ASPIRE hasn't been fixed yet after an incident on Dec. 2 when water was dripping on court number one after heavy rainfall, making it impossible to play due to safety reasons," DAGOC said inthe press release.

DAGOC Media Services manager Reg Gratton, however, said that he did not know how serious the leakage in the roof of Aspire Dome, the largest indoor sports arena in the world, which is hosting boxing, badminton, gymnastics and track cycling events.
