DOHA, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese women's soccer team thrashed Jordan 12-0 in the preliminary matches and booked a ticket for the semi-finals at Doha Asian Games here on Monday.
China got two straight wins with 19 goals, and likely to top Group A if they don't lose to Japan, who have also notched six points in the last group match.
"We are happy to qualify for the next round," said Chinese coach Ma Liangxing.
"I hope more and more west Asian countries can have women's teams compete in these big events in order to help further develop the sports in Asia.
"We are proud to compete with China in the Asian Games," said Jordan's boss Issa Al Turk.
"It's very difficult to develop women's soccer in our country. The team have only gathered for two and a half months."
Jordan, the first women's soccer team of the Arabic nations to compete in Asian Games, were obviously not at the same class with China, and had to defend throughout the game.
Chinese star forward Han Duan scored four times, while Ren Liping, Wang Kun and substitute Ma Xiaoxu each got a double.
Center back Li Jie contributed one goal and an own-goal from Jordan defender made the result.
Jordan players were brave in front of the strong opponents and showed some determination in defense. But in attacking, they could rarely dashed into China's half pitch.
DPR Korea pounced Chinese Taipei 4-0 to advance to the next stage.
Kim Kyong Hwa made a brace in the 6th and 53rd minute. Ri Un Suk and Ho Sun Hui added the other two goals to seal the victory.
In Monday's other matches, Japan defeated Thailand 4-0 to cruise to last four; South Korea beat Vietnam 3-1 to advance.
