PATNA, India, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- The death toll rose to 32 after an old overbridge fell on a crowded train Saturday morning in north Indian state Bihar, a local government official said.

The rescuers have found 32 bodies so far and the rescue operation was coming to an end, said Dhananjay Thakur, Civil Sub-Divisional Officer of Bhagalpur district where the accident took place.

The train was slowly reaching the Bhagalpur railway station when the 150-year-old overbridge suddenly fell down on the coach number 8, damaging it extensively.

According to the earlier report, about 80 passengers were in the coach when the accident happened.

The overbridge had been under dismantlement in the past few days to be replaced by a new one but the work has not finished yet.

Indian Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav has ordered an investigation into the accident while terming it as sheer negligence.

Two railway engineers, a deputy chief engineer and an assistant engineer, have been suspended, the India Railway Board chairman J.P. Batra told reporters here.
