Special report: Israel launches Gaza assault     

    RAMALLAH, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice Thursday arrived in Jericho in West Bank for talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, as part of the ongoing U.S. diplomatic efforts in the region, al-Jazeera English TV channel reported.

    Earlier, Yasser Abed Rabou, senior member of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), told al-Ayyam local news paper that the two sides will discuss the political process with Israel, reinforcing ceasefire and Abbas' efforts to form a unity government.

    Rice is also expected to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert later Thursday in Jerusalem.
