LUANDA,
Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Angola has decided to join the Organization of Petroleum
Exporting Countries (OPEC) as a full right member, a press release issued on
Wednesday said.
The decision took into account the role that the
country plays in the world's oil domain and in view of its current output of 1.4
million barrels a day, said the release from the 9th ordinary session of the
Cabinet Council, chaired by Angolan head of State, Jos Eduardo dos Santos.
OPEC, created in 1960, now has 11 members including
Algeria, Indonesia, Iran, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the
United Arab Emirates, Venezuela and Iraq.
OPEC's mission is to coordinate and unify the
petroleum policies of member countries and ensure the stabilization of oil
prices in order to secure an efficient, economic and regular supply of petroleum
to consumers.
