WASHINGTON, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- The Lincoln Memorial in the U.S. capital, Washington, D.C., was closed on Monday after suspicious items were found.

A bottle with liquid substance inside was found in a women's rest room at the memorial, along with a note that said "Do you know what anthrax is?" and "Do you know what a bomb is?"

While authorities were investigating the suspicious liquid, they received a call about a suspicious package, media reports said.

The FBI, U.S. Park Police and D.C. firefighters were investigating the incident.

The Lincoln Memorial, dedicated in 1922, was built to commemorate former U.S. President Abraham Lincoln, who served as the 16th president from 1861 to 1865.

The building contained a large seated sculpture of Lincoln and inscriptions of two of his well-known speeches.
