GAZA, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- A spokesman for the Palestinian leadership said on Monday that the Palestinians need "deeds and not words" for the renewal of peace process.
In a response to Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's offer for a lasting peace settlement between Israel and the Palestinians, Nabil Abu Rudeineh said, "We need actions rather than statements." Abu Rudeineh also called on Israel to come back "to the negotiation table and begin serious talks based on the International legitimacy."
Abu Rudeineh insisted on implementing the US-backed Road Map peace plan and the Arab Initiative for peace, especially the UN resolution 194 which called for the return of Palestinian refugees from Diaspora.
Olmert said on Monday that Israel was ready to withdraw from large parts, including settlements, in exchange for achieving a real peace with the Palestinians, but he put a condition that the Palestinians stop calling for the return of refugees.
