BEIRUT, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has seized 17 rockets and explosives in southern Lebanon since the start of September, Lebanon's local Naharnet news website reported on Sunday.

"Since the beginning of September there have been several incidents where UNIFIL has discovered unauthorized arms," a statement from the UNIFIL was quoted by the website as reporting on Saturday.

The report said that some 17 Katyusha rockets and the same number of explosive devices were seized by UNIFIL, according to the statement, adding that another "seven missiles and three rocket launchers" had also been found.

Hezbollah fired thousands of Katyusha rockets at Israel during the July-August war, sparked by the group's cross-border capture of two Israeli soldiers.

A UN resolution that ended the 34-day conflict between Israel and Lebanon's Hezbollah on August 14 banned weapons in south Lebanon and beefed up the number of UNIFIL peacekeepers.

Furthermore, about 10,000 Lebanese soldiers were also deployed in the area south of the Litani River to help implement the UN resolution.
