Special Report: Hu Jintao visits 4 Asian nations, attends APEC Meeting
HANOI, Nov.18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao is expected to make proposals on promoting common development in the Asia-Pacific region at the 14th Economic Leaders' Informal Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum that started in Hanoi on Saturday afternoon, Chinese officials said.
Under the theme of "Towards a dynamic community for
sustainable development and prosperity," the meeting will focus on topics
including the support of the Doha Round of negotiations at the World Trade
Organization, the realization of the Bogor goals, regional trade arrangements,
economic and trade cooperation, anti-terrorism, energy, health, anti-corruption
and APEC reform.
According to Chinese officials, President Hu is
expected to put forward proposals at the meeting on how to promote the common
development as well as economic and technological cooperation in the region.
APEC is the premier forum for facilitating economic
growth, cooperation, trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific region.
Established in 1989, APEC accounts for more than one
third of the world's population, approximately 60 percent of the world GDP and
about 47 percent of world trade.
