BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- China's best known
sports commentator Huang Jianxiang said on Friday that he had resigned from
Chinese Central Television (CCTV).
The 38-year-old Huang, who caused an uproar with a
pro-Italy outburst during this summer's World Cup finals, said he needed a break
from a punishing schedule, which included over 200 live games every year.
CCTC sports director Jiang Heping told Beijing Youth
Daily that Huang's resignation was his personal decision and it had nothing to
do with his overzealous commentating during the World Cup.
Huang was dropped from the CCTV top 10 anchors list
after his outburst during the Italy-Australia match.
"Goal! Game over! Italy wins! Beat the Australians!"
he shouted during the match. "Italy the great! Left back the great! Forza
Italia!"
