HANOI, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- Senior officials from 21 member economies of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) started their second day session here Monday to continue the preparation for APEC leaders meeting.
In the plenary session, the officials are discussing issues of trade and investment liberalization and facilitation (TILF), Economic and Technical Cooperation (ECOTECH) activities, human security area and others.
The final draft documents will be sent for approval at the APEC Ministerial Meeting and APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting slated on Nov. 15-16 and Nov. 18-19 respectively in Hanoi.
In their first-day informal session, the senior officials discussed ways for advancing the current round of WTO negotiations, the potential for establishing a Free Trade Agreement of the Asia-Pacific region and finalized their recommendations on the Hanoi Action Plan that will be presented for consideration by the APEC ministers.
Prior to the current concluding meeting, the senior officials held three meetings on the implementation of the programs worked out at the APEC leaders' meeting in Busan, South Korea, in November 2005, and prepared for the current APEC meetings.
APEC currently has 21 members: Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, China, China's Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, the United States and Vietnam. The chairmanship rotates among its members, with Vietnam holding the chair this year.
