BEIJING, Nov. 12 -- Supermodel Kate Moss and former
"Beatle" Sir Paul McCartney are among the 10 famous faces to be shortlisted for
the UK's top living icon honor.
Apart from Moss, the list includes only two women -
singer Kate Bush and fashion designer Dame Vivienne Westwood.
The 32-year-old stunner is reportedly the youngest
person in the honor list.
Other names vying for the top position are playwright
Alan Bennett, actors Sir Michael Caine and Stephen Fry, and singers David Bowie,
Morrissey and Sir David Attenborough.
The names of more than 500 Britons were suggested by
the viewers of BBC2 program "The Culture Show," which is launching the search.
"It's a striking list - no Queen, no Maggie, no JK
Rowling. Best of all this is a totally open race. Any of the 10 could win," the
Daily Mail quoted producer Edward Morgan, as saying.
The winner will be announced on The Culture Show on
Dec. 16 after voting closes on Nov. 27.

Mills-McCartney sues 2 British
newspapers
BEIJING, Oct. 25 (Xinhuanet) -- Heather
Mills-McCartney seems determined to prove a "woman's wrath hath no bounds"
by suing two newspapers over "false, damaging and immensely upsetting"
stories about her divorce from Paul McCartney, according to a statement Tuesday
by her lawyers.
The
law firm Mishcon de Reya named the Daily Mail and London's Evening Standard as
the subject of legal proceedings, adding that a suit would also be filed against
The Sun.
"She cannot sue -- for now, at least -- every single
newspaper that has published false, damaging, and immensely upsetting statements
about her. She should not thereby be taken to have accepted that these
statements are true," the statement read.
"She is pursued everywhere she goes. She is stalked
by press photographers, who congregate outside her home and chase after her in
cars -- regardless of her safety or the safety of her daughter," her lawyers
said. Full story>>

Yahoo.com) | The
64-year-old former Beatle blamed his estranged wife for the split, saying her
behavior was unreasonable and argumentative, The Sun and The Daily Mirror
reported. Her spokesman, Phil Hall, said she was unhappy about the reports.
"Heather's going to be filing her own counterclaims
about matters," Hall said in a statement.
"She is hugely disappointed that matters of such a
confidential nature should be aired in public and feels it is inappropriate to
speak about such delicate matters when a child is involved."
The couple have a 2-year-old daughter, Beatrice.
McCartney, who does not have a prenuptial agreement
to protect his estimated US$1.5 billion fortune, has hired lawyer Fiona
Shackleton, who represented Prince Charles in his divorce from Princess Diana.
McCartney was photographed Friday without his wedding
ring during a visit to his performing arts school in Liverpool.
The couple married in June 2002, four years after
McCartney's first wife, Linda, died of breast cancer. Linda and Paul married in
1969 and had three children.
McCartney and Mills McCartney met at a charity event
in 1999.
