    Hamas leader calls for int'l war criminal tribunal against Israeli officials

    DAMASCUS, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Exiled Hamas leader in Syria Khaled Meshaal on Wednesday called for a formation of international war criminal tribunal against Israeli officials with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on top of the list.

    Peretz orders probe into killing of 19 Palestinians

   JERUSALEM, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) --  Israeli Defense Minister Amir Peretz on Wednesday ordered the army to cease artillery fire in the Gaza Strip and urged a speedy probe into a shelling that killed 19 Palestinians, the Yedioth Ahronoth daily reported.

   Early Wednesday morning, Israeli tank shells struck houses in the northern Gaza town of Beit Hanoun, killing at least 19 Palestinians and wounding dozens of others. Eight children and four women were among the dead. Full story>>

    Syria condemns Israeli attack in Gaza as "state terrorism"

    DAMASCUS, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Syria condemned on Wednesday the Israeli attack in a residential neighborhood in northern Gaza as "state terrorism" and "barbaric massacre and aggression", the official SANA news agency reported on Wednesday.

    Solana deplores Israeli military operation in Gaza

    BRUSSELS, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- European Union (EU) foreign policy and security chief Javier Solana on Wednesday deplored Israel's military operation in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday night.

    "I deplore the Israeli military operation carried out last night in Beit Hanoun, which has resulted in the deaths of 18 people, mostly civilians," Solana said in a statement.

    UN rights expert denounces Israeli attacks in Gaza

    GENEVA, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- A UN human rights expert on Wednesday strongly condemned Israel's military attacks on Palestinians in the Gaza strip and urged immediate UN Security Council actions to stop Israel's operations.

    John Dugard, the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Occupied Palestinian Territories, said Israeli military operations in Gaza since June have resulted in more than 300 deaths, including many civilians, and over 1,000 injuries.
