MACAO, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Crown Macao, a casino-hotel resort to be opened here in the middle of next year, plans to employ 3,500 staff in Macao, local media reported Friday.

The Macao Post Daily reported that the casino-hotel complex, located in the region's Taipa Island, features 200 gaming tables, 1,000 slot machines and 227 luxury hotel rooms.

Crown Macao, owned by Australia's Melco-PBL Entertainment, is aimed at the luxury market of high-stake gamblers, according to the newspaper.

Macao, with a population of over 500,000, has a 150-year history of gaming industry and is the only part of China where casino gaming is legitimate.

Direct tax paid by the current 21 casinos dominates over 70 percent of the local government yearly revenue.
