WASHINGTON, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Democrats won control of the Senate on Wednesday with a midterm election victory in Virginia, where Jim Webb defeated incumbent Senator George Allen.

    Allen was the sixth Republican incumbent senator defeated in Tuesday's elections, giving Democrats the 51st seat in the 100-seat Senate.
