    LOS ANGELES, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- California's Republican governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is expected to win reelection on Tuesday, largely due to his star power as a former Hollywood action hero and a pledge of bipartisan policies in the Democrat-dominated state.

    As the 2006 midterm elections are held across the United States to decide on a new power structure for the congress, voters in California are picking the people who will run the state for the next four years and deciding on various propositions, ranging from energy policy to cigarette tax.     WASHINGTON, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Democrats have won the governors' elections in Ohio and Massachusetts for the first time in more than a decade, U.S. media reported Tuesday.

    In Ohio, Ted Strickland defeated his Republican rival Ken Blackwell with ease to become the state's first Democratic governor in 16 years. While in Massachusetts, Deval Patrick defeated Republican Kerry Healey and will become the state's first black governor. Full story>>

    First winners elected in U.S. midterm elections

    WASHINGTON, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- While voters in some western U.S. states are still casting their ballots, some candidates in eastern states have already been announced winners of congressional and gubernatorial elections.

    WASHINGTON, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Voters across the United States will go to the polls on Tuesday, to elect all 435 members of the House of Representatives and one-third of the 100 Senate members, in the 2006 midterm elections believed to be crucial for both of the two major parties.

    Polling stations normally open at six or seven in the morning local time, and preliminary results will be announced as early as Tuesday evening. Full story>>
