    NBC poll: Democrats take House, challenge Senate seats     

    BEIJING, Nov. 8 (Xinhuanet) -- The Democratic Party has regained control of the U.S. House of Representatives and have made a strong showing in the race for Senate seats, according to NBC News exit-poll projections. It will be the first time in 12 years the Democrats controlled the House.

    Projections by The Associated Press at 11:15 p.m. ET Tuesday showed the Democrats’picking up 30 seats in the House, twice as many as they needed to regain control and install Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California as the nation's first female speaker. Political pundits see the results as a sharp rebuke to President George W. Bush. Full Story>>

    Urgent: Democrats take 15 House seats from Republicans in midterm elections

    WASHINGTON, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- The Democrats have captured 15 seats from the Republicans in Tuesday's midterm legislative elections, the CNN reported.

    Democrats take control of U.S. House

    WASHINGTON, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- The Democratic Party on Tuesday took control of the U.S. House of Representatives for the first time since 1994, CNN reported said.

    Democrats take third Senate seat from Republicans

    WASHINGTON, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Democrat challenger Sheldon Whitehouse defeated his GOP rival, incumbent Sen. Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island in Tuesday's midterm legislative elections.

    Earlier, the Democrats captured Senate seats from the Republicans in Ohio and Pennsylvania. In Ohio, Democrat Sherrod Brown defeated two-term Republican Sen. Mike DeWine in a race abandoned by the Republican Party. While in Pennsylvania, Democrat Bob Casey defeated his Republican rival, incumbent Sen. Rick Santorum. Full story>>
