BEIJING,
Nov. 5 (Xinhuanet) -- Apple Computer Inc. said on Friday that it's adding a red
8-gigabyte version of its tiny iPod nano to its popular line of digital music
players, which offers to donate money to charity for every player it sells.
The new device can store about 2,000 songs, which
doubles the capacity of a 4 GB red nano player that's already on the
market.
Apple have announced several weeks ago to join with
U2 lead singer Bono and Bobby Shriver to express compassion for AIDS sufferers
in Africa by contributing a portion of its revenue from a 4 GB brighter red iPod
Nano to the struggle against the disease.
Apple will donate 10 U.S. dollars from every sale of
the red music player both new and old types to RED, an anti-aids organization
founded by Bono and Shriver, but other color products will not be included in
this donation.
"We're ecstatic that Apple is giving their customers
the choice to buy a red iPod nano and help women and children affected by
HIV/AIDS in Africa," said Bono, in a prepared statement. "It's wonderful to see
this incredible level of commitment from companies that are willing to lend
their creativity in the fight against AIDS in Africa, the greatest health crisis
in 600 years."
The 4 GB red player complements the already available
second generation Ipod Nano, which is sold in black, silver, blue, green and
pink colors. Apple also offers a silver 2 GB version of the Nano for 150 dollars
and a black 8 GB model for 250 dollars.
