MANILA, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- Typhoon Cimaron, locally known as Paeng, left at
least 19 people dead, 15 missing and 58 hurt when it hit the northern part of
the Philippines early this week, the National Disaster Coordinating Council
(NDCC) said on Wednesday.
Cimaron also displaced some 65,000 families and damaged more than 3,000
houses with estimated damage cost to agriculture and infrastructure of 443.4
million pesos (8.8 million U.S. dollars), the NDCC said.
The typhoon also cut several roads and bridges while flooding and
landslides kept some areas off traffic in Northern Luzon.
Cimaron left the country Tuesday toward Vietnam and forecasters said it
could intensify over the South China Sea before making second landfall along the
eastern coast of Vietnam later this week.
The damage of Cimaron is considered minimal compared with typhoon Xangsane
which hit Metro Manila and Southern Luzon at the end of September, killing at
least 200 and destroying billions of pesos of infrastructures and properties.
The Philippines is visited by about 20 typhoons every year.
