Oct.30 -- The Hollywood blockbuster "Miami Vice" starring Gong Li and Colin
Farrell will be released in China as of Nov. 1. Gong Li came to Beijing on
Sunday and did interviews throughout the whole day.
Western critics had commented that Gong's performance
in "Miami Vice" was much better than that in "Memoirs of a Geisha." Gong did not
agree with that and said her characters in these two movies are so different
that one cannot say which is better or worse.
She explained the character in Miami Vice was totally
new for her, so she did a lot of preparatory work to portray the character well.
Reports said that 20 minutes of risqué scenes had
been cut out of the original "Miami Vice" for screening in China.
Gong clarified that the cuts were of only four
minutes which were mainly are violent and bloody scenes, and it doesn't affect
the plot.
Meanwhile, what interested the media most was the
actress's starring role in Zhang Yimou's film "Curse of Golden Flower." The film
is the only cooperation between the golden pair in the past ten years. (Gong Li
had become a household name after starring in several of Zhang's movies more
than ten years ago.)
Gong said that the three reasons that attracted her
to play in the movie were the director, the script, and lead actor Chow Yun-Fat.
When asked whether she was deeply influenced by
Zhang, Gong gave a big smile and said "no". She said how Zhang influenced her
was far from what the media were suggesting.
