BEIJING, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- More than 160 million
mainland Chinese suffer from high blood pressure, according to the Chinese
Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
Three million people are added to the list each year,
according to a recent survey on public nutrition and health by the center's
health education institute.
Brain stroke patients are estimated to be more than
six million.
Experts said that heart and cerebrovascular diseases
such as hypertension and stroke often lead to disability and death.
Health education is the most cost-effective way of
preventing and treating this type of disease, they said.
The institute and the Ministry of Health are working
with the Boston Scientific Corporation to carry out health education programs in
China.
