Mexico warns U.S. of referral to UN over border fencing plan
MEXICO CITY, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Mexican government on Wednesday warned that it may refer Washington's plan to build fences on the U.S.- Mexico border to the United Nations.
The U.S. plan to build about 1,125 km of new fencing along the U.S.- Mexico border was an "offense," Mexican Foreign Minister Luis Ernesto Derbez told a news briefing here. Full Story
Bush signs U.S.-Mexico border security bill
WASHINGTON, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President George W. Bush on Thursday signed a homeland security bill to give 1.2 billion U.S. dollars to build a fence along the U.S.-Mexico border to stanch the flow of illegal immigrants.
Addressing a ceremony in Scottsdale, Arizona, Bush said the bill would modernize border protection by adding fencing, vehicle barriers, infrared cameras and ground-based radars. Full Story
Mexico slams U.S. border fense proposal
MEXICO CITY, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Mexican presidential spokesman Ruben Aguilar on Tuesday criticized a U.S. border fense proposal, saying that will be "useless and unworkable."
The comments came on the same day when Mexico's embassy in Washington sent a letter to the Bush administration, slamming a U.S. Senate vote authorizing 1,125 km of new fencing along the border. Full Story
