    NATO forces kill 15 militants in S Afghanistan

    KABUL, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) killed 15 militants in the southern Zabul province of Afghanistan, an ISAF spokesman told Xinhua on Sunday.

    "An ISAF convoy came under fire of some militants in Deh Chopan district of Zabul province on Saturday. The forces returned fire and killed 15 insurgents," Maj. Luke Knittig said. Full story>>

    Militants set on fire aid agency's office in Afghanistan

    KABUL, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Unknown militants set on fire the office of a Swedish funded aid agency in Afghanistan's east central province of Wardak, a state-run newspaper reported Sunday. 

    "The enemies alighted the office of the Swedish Committee Friday night destroying two rooms," daily Anis quoted provincial police chief General Mahboobullah Amiri as saying. Full story>>

    BERMEL, Afghanistan, Oct. 18 (Xinhua)-- The Bermel military base is located in the east of Afghanistan's eastern province Paktika and it is only 10 kilometers from Pakistan.

    About 400 to 500 Afghan soldiers are deployed in the base, which lies on a desert-like plain and is surrounded by high walls and thorny wire netting. Civilian houses are scattering one or two kilometers away. Full story>>
