BUCHAREST, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Three people were killed on Tuesday when a military helicopter crashed into the Golesti dam lake of Arges county, in southern Romania, local emergency officials said.

According to witnesses, the helicopter engines stopped running while still in air, which resulted in the helicopter falling into the lake, and disintegrating upon impact with the water.

The three crew members -- two pilots and a mechanic -- were killed in the crash, said sources with the Arges Emergencies Inspectorate.

The accident occurred at about 1:30 p.m. local time (1030 GMT),during a training flight carried out by two IAR 330 Puma helicopters from Bucharest's 90th Air Transport Base.

Emergency personnel were on the scene trying to remove the wreckage from the lake. Rescue divers were also at the site looking for bodies.

General Staff of the Air Force has dispatched an expert team to look into the cause of the accident, Army Chief of Staff Vice Admiral Gheorghe Marin said. Enditem
