KABUL, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Officials from Afghan National Directorate of Security confiscated lots of materials for making explosives and bombs in the eastern Laghman province, said a statement of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) on Tuesday.

The officials inspected and confiscated two trucks on Sunday, which were transporting more than 150 75-pound bags of ammonium nitrate and over 159 cans of suspected magnesium paste, it said.

Both materials are important elements in the making of explosives and bombs, it said.

ISAF explosive experts will dispose of these materials and Afghan officials will investigate the incident further.

About 31,000 ISAF troops are deployed in this country to fight militants and facilitate reconstruction.

Due to inferiority in military equipment and tactics, Taliban and other militants have frequently carried bombing and suicide bombing attacks towards foreign and government targets.

In the past months, Afghanistan has suffered from numerous bombing attacks and suicide blasts.
